新加坡没有言论自由，不允许余澎杉表达（在发达国家都被允许的）的个人言论。已经遭到联合国的关注。今日终于他到达了美国本土，在机场申请了政治避难：

注：现在很多新加坡的新闻报道说他被美国移民机构扣押。但是无知的新加坡媒体不知道的是，如果在美国边境(port of entry) 申请避难（而不是正式入境以后申请），申请者必需要被扣押：
“ Individuals who express a fear of return, instead of being immediately deported, are mandatorily detained and should be referred for a credible fear screening, conducted by a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services asylum officer.”
