Q1: I am in the midst of purchasing a new resale property. The transaction will be completed soon and I will be able to move in prior to the commencement of the academic year. Can I make use of this new address to register my child?
A1: The resale Housing & Development Board (HDB) flat's/ private property’s address can be used provided you are able to produce evidence from the relevant authority that you have committed to the purchase of this property and you are still in the midst of completing the purchase at the point of registration. In addition, you have to sign a letter of undertaking to move into the new property by 2 January of the admission year.
In the case of resale private property, the exercised Option-To-Purchase (OTP) together with the buyer’s Stamp Duty Certificate are the official documents required for the use of the resale private property address for P1 registration.
In the case of resale HDB flat, the resale flat application status indicating that HDB has received your application to buy a resale flat is required.
The resale flat application status can be retrieved and printed from the HDB Resale Portal under HDB e-Services.
A child who gains priority admission into a school through the home-school distance category using the address of the new resale property is required to reside at the new address for at least 30 months starting from 2 January of the admission year.
Q2:I have purchased a yet-to-be completed property and should be moving in after the property is completed. Can I make use of the new home address for Primary One (P1) registration?
A2: The new home address can be used provided that you are able to produce evidence from the relevant authority that you have committed to the purchase of this property. In addition, you have to sign a letter of undertaking to move into the new property within two years of the child's entry into Primary One (P1).
