Question about notice period and compensation during probation pe

one of my friends wanted to resign from his current company, however he was still in probation period. As per contract, he is required to serve 2 weeks notice and pay 1 month salary if resigning during probation period.
He wants to know that whether this term is valid for him, which is compensating the company beside serving his notice period in his probation period.

Furthermore, two weeks before he tendered his resignation, his boss told him that his performance was not good without any details and then asked him to look for another job. Does he need to compensate the company as the boss told him to leave?

Thanks

I must agree that it is highly unusal for an emplyee to give one month's salary in addition to serving two (2) weeks' notice.

Have to look at the employment contract before I am able to advise further
