Seek your advise on a dispute over renting a room, Thank you in a

This is dispute is between my friend and my colleauge. this whole renting a room thing didn't come through, now my colleague threatens to sue me because my friend is currently not in singapore.

the story is :

My friend was in Australia and wanted to move to Singapore early this July, so she asked me to help her with renting a room, at that time i happened to know that my colleague just took a whole flat and had one room for rent from 1st jul, therefore, I introduced them to each other. They communicated everything via email all by themselves.

1. At the very beginning, my friend decided to take the room after their discussion

2. then my colleague urged her to pay one month rent as deposit by 1th July, so he will keep the room for her

3. My friend didnt feel comfortable transfering the deposit directly to my colleague, so she transfered the deposit on 1st Jul to my bank account and asked me to give it to my colleage later

4. however, before money arrived my account, my friend changed her mind and decided not to rent that room because she hadn't been able to sort out her Sgingapore visa. so she told me to keep the money once money arrived and pay my colleague the gap once he found next tenant. here the gap my friend refered to is the time between 1st Jul and any date that next tenant signed up.

5. one month passed by,namely by the end of jul, my colleague still havent found his next tenant, so he came to me and asked me to give him full month rent deposit that my friend had transfered.

6 my friend messaged me that she refused to pay a single penny.then I passed on the message to my colleague, at the same time I mailed the money back to my friend.

now my colleague threanted to sue me, he said that money is his and I shouldnt dispose it without his consent, which I quite disagree because i always thought that is my friend's money and I have no right to give it to him without her consent even she breached their agreement.

In the meanwhile, he asked me to give him my friend's passport no. oveseas contact no and postal address .i think he wants to sue her as well.

My question is: Is this a valid case that my colleaque can sue me??? I dont think I am responsible for their deal and their action. how can he sue me? they didn't sign any paper, by the way.

many thanks for your time, uncle Agony. I look forward to your comments!

Is there a written agreement between your friend and your colleague? If there is no written agreement and your friend decided not to rent the room from him then your colleague has no claim for the rental deposit from your friend.

It seems your colleague has no claim against you; even if he is entitled to the sum from your friend (which is not the case) he only has a claim against your colleague. You are not only obliged to reveal details of your friend to your colleague.

does a simple agreement in email serve as an official agreement by law?
just curious to know....becauase I use a lot of unoffical email agreements in my daily work. Thanks. For example, "Yes, I agree to do xxx by date of xxx."
