本人的升职失败实录

背景: 在一家中型公司工作一年多(母公司是Singapore power 和 siemens, 所以兼有政府企业和私营企业的特点)

五月:
my manager: 由于你的良好表现, 我会向公司提出升你的职到senior engineer
patrician : (心里暗爽)
patrician : 老爸,俺...
六月:
patrician : (心里暗爽)
patrician : 老爸,俺...

七月:
patrician : (心里暗爽)
patrician : 老爸,俺...
八月:
meeting(我的manager和assistant manager 出席)
my manager: Mr. Patrician is ... knowledgable ... responsible ... very
competent... certificates including SCEA ... leading software
development...
其他manager: 点头 or 无视 or 翻资料准备找碴
突然...
a bad guy : wait a moment... since he is so competent, why did he fail his
exam of a course we sponsored him to take?
my manager: hmmm...

我fail的那个是crystal report/business object 的3天进阶课程,我去上是为了评估当时做的project是不是可以用得上,因此完全没有经验,当时又忙,所以考试就可耻的当了...
最后俺的升职泡汤了,俺的manager还跟俺讲要是某些人找不到更好的理由下次还会用这个对付俺.
他还讲别人想要对付他就会深情的回忆起n年前他的第一个project赔了公司几十万...
我的感想:人的屁股是擦不干净的,拉拢盟友才是王道.要是这次支持他的manager多一点,俺不就升了吗?

first, your boss's back ground is not strong and second he is not that support u
that is not a difficult to explain situdation and your boss just need to make a general statment like: well, i understand the situation and felt that is not his fault. (very strong statment) first ...(that reason for the cause), second ...( due to some urgent work, u did not get time to prepare)...third, to be fair, even in school, you need time to prepare your exam......(make it to be a general fact that most people will fail under this situation)...
and your boss need to be strong in making above statment...then no one could use this to against you again....

or next time u could make above explanantion if your boss just hmmmm....but a lot risk lah......ang good luck

it's true that my boss's background is not very strong
he is just promoted to manager level recently. Besides that, he is disliked by many people in this company, including many people under him. the turnover rate in the department is extremely high...around 70% old staff left in the last 12 months. The only reason he has his chair in the meeting room is the performance of his projects.

努力工作才是王道
其余可不必过度考虑。
公司内部错综复杂,并非得势的就是得势的,并非有前途的就是有前途的。这于所在范围有关,这与整个公司机构的大的战略发展有关,这也与一些难以预测的人事关系有关,若是政联公司,更加如此。
所以,作为工程师,做好自己的工作是唯一要考虑的,也是唯一通向上升之路的因素。若以小聪明做大博弈,必会使得多年辛苦一夜间化为烟云。
不要跟随哪一个领导,要跟随自己的良知和智慧;不要跟随哪一个项目或者目标,要跟随认真的工作精神。

上升的道路从来都是曲折的,若淡而化之,才有可能有大作为。

"作为工程师,做好自己的工作是唯一要考虑的,也是唯一通向上升之路的因素." 我到觉得,“做好自己的工作”是必须的,但就靠它还远远不够。

It seems that your relationship with your colleagues are not quite good
As a person in the company. You have to balance yourself between the Management, the client and the colleagues. Get support from all of them are very important. Now I think you should take some initiative to improve the relationship with your colleagues. Make them support you, or at least do not against you for the next time.

I dont understand...
Where did you get this information? The people who shows hostile in my story are some managers who may not even know anythiing about me. Besides, they are not against me. They are in fact against my manager.
I am keeping good relation with most of my colleagues. My manager is keeping telling me as a team leadder I am too soft. "You must resume the power", he told me like this.
