It is increasingly popular for people to travel, either within the country or aboard. The effects of tourism are open to discussion. Some feel that it brings more benefits to the countries that people travel to while others think it affects them more negatively. In my view, the destination counties gain a lot more than the harm they suffer stemming from tourism. In the following paragraphs, I would elaborate on my views.
　
First of all, with the influx of tourists into a country, it boosts its economy in two aspects. One direct contribution is the expenditure that tourists spend on their food, accommodation, transport and entrance fees while travelling in the country. 　Meanwhile, it helps the nation to create more jobs to meet the needs of the tourism sector. If the number of overseas tourists is stable over the yeas, the unemployment rate of the country will remain at a healthy level.　
　
Secondly, when foreigners visit the country, it allows rich cultural exchange. Visitors learn new knowledge about the destination country through interactions with local residents, which leads to better appreciation of the local language, food and culture. When travellers return to their home countries, they can share their good experiences they had during trips with their fellow countrymen. 　 　 This will greatly reduce the chance of misunderstanding or conflicts between the people of the two countries. At the same time, this will also promote friendship and bilateral relationship.　
　
However, there are some negative effects as well. One of such down sides is possible congestion which may occur during weekends or public holiday periods. For example, Orchard Road and many other attractions of Singapore are overcrowded during Chinese New Year or Christmas season. This may add inconvenience to the local. Interestingly, just like Singaporeans, many people can tolerate such minor troubles. 　　
　
As discussed, whether tourism is good or bad to a country is not an easy debate. The economy and the culture of the country people visit, the openness and readiness of the local people are the important considerations, along with other factors. All in all, I would say that the benefits tourism brings to the destination country outweigh the negative influences imposed on it.
