Raffles书院国内招生细节
现在又到SM1招生、录取的时候了。贴一下孩子2005年7月24日写的考试小结,也许对大家有帮助。
现在回想昨天的考试,确实是一次值得回忆的不可多得的经历。
8:15——8:35,IQ测试
8:50——11:05,数学测试
11:15——12:15,物理测试
14:00——16:00,英语测试
16:15 男生开始面试
17:00——17:20,我的面试
分析一下:
IQ测试:我感到并没有像以前被录取的人讲的那样难,我做得很顺,也许是我碰到简单的迅速
选择,碰到难的也迅速选择,就这样糊里糊涂地用15min做完所有的IQ题,剩下5min思
考最后几题,可是苦思冥想,最终还是蒙的!
数学测试:就那样!自我感觉——不好,也不坏。
物理测试:开始有些不顺,后来渐入佳境。
英语测试:好歹还是认识不少单词,虽然有些句子,不,几乎所有的句子,都不太懂。
英语作文,充分发挥了我丰富的想象力,花了将近45min写了近500词的文章。
我的面试:值得回忆。以下是面试的大概过程:
(A=我 B=考官)(中文:现场说的就是中文,英文:现场说的就是英文)
B Please sit down.
A Thank you.
B Relax.
A Take a deep breath
B Now, please introduce yourself.
A My name is XX. I’m fifteen years old. I’m from XX School. Now I would like to use R, A, F, F, L, E, S, raffles, the seven letters to describe myself.
R is reliable. I’m an honest student.
A is acquisitive(注解1). I devote much time to the acquisition of the knowledge.
The first F is friendly. I’m friendly to everybody, so everyone likes to talk with me.
The second F is flexible. I’m flexible under different circumstances(注解2).
L is leadership. I have been a monitor and a secretary of the League for three years at school.
E is easygoing. I seldom get angry, so I can get on well with everyone.
S is stubborn. If I do something in the right ways, I will remain to do it until it finishes(注解3). I also like challenges. I have confidence in passing this interview.
B 脸上露出了笑容,又将以上的七个词问了一遍,并说stubborn这个词在中国人眼里是褒义词,但在他们眼里是贬义词。请我换一个以S开头的词。还说你可以想一会,不要慌。
A Simple.
B How to explain it?
A When I thought something, I would tell it to someone directly.
B XXX.(他讲了一个词,还解释了一大堆,我一句也没听懂,我就一边听,一边点头,外带微笑)

B Introduce your parents.
A Occupation?
B Yes.
A My father XXXX. My mother is XXXX
B 你为什么会选择新加坡?
A 指的是新加坡莱佛士书院吗?
B Yes.
A May I speak it in Chinese?
B We prefer English.
A OK. Last month, your headmaster came here and introduced RI. I am attracted to the school. RI has a long history since June. 5th, 1823. The school was re-named Raffles Institution in 1868 in the memory of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles.
(补充:任何时候,都要对自己要去的地方的相关信息做了解。比如考生在这里很好的说出了莱佛士的历史)
B How do you know the information?
A I found it on the Internet, RI’s website. Also, RI has records of achievement.
B Have you been to any other cities in China?
A Yes. Last summer, I traveled to Yunnan Province with my father. We went to Dianchi. The lake smells bad.
B What’s your hobby?
A I have many hobbies such as reading, watching TV and sports. I like sports best, especially playing football and Go. My favorite sports star is Yao Ming. He’s very tall. I think his basketball skill is very good. I like him very much. I once asked my father to buy a real Yao’s jersey from the U.S.. When I was watching the Rockets matches, I would dress the uniform. He trains so hard that he is becoming a star player. From him, I learnt that if you work hard, nothing is impossible.
B What is your dream?
A Whatever I do in the future, I must honest and word hard. I want to be a statesman in the future striving to narrow the income gap in society?
B (打断了我的话) What will you do to achieve the narrowing of income gap?
A 可以让高收入者交纳较高的税,对他们实施高税率。而在一定收入以下的人可以不缴税。比如说年收入在50000元以下的人,可以不缴税。这里的50000元只是一个比方、假设。
B 你有没有想到,如果你采取此项政策,很多高收入人群会反对。
A 如果我是一个领导者,并实施了此项政策,在政策实施初期,我也许会受到很大压力,高收入人群会游行、示威,我甚至可能因此下课、下台。
B 如果你的税率太高,富人投资所赚的钱,也许90% 要上交,他们可以不到你这里投资,那么你这里的经济发展会陷入僵局,你怎么办?
A 我认为中国目前经济发展迅速,充满巨大的商机,没有一个富人会放弃赚钱的机会。
B 如果富人收入所得的90% 上交,他们会觉得太辛苦,就会不在这投资。
A 中国市场巨大,我想每个富人都想在这投资。即使有一些人不愿在这投资,只要有人投资赚了钱,其他人势必会争先恐后的在中国投资。这是一个良性循环。
B 但如果没有人投资呢?
A 我记得我曾看过有关高税率的文章,说得是在西欧,我记不清是瑞士还是奥地利还是其他国家,实施的是高税率政策。如果我要实施此项政策,我一定会派人到当地考察,在结合中国的具体情况,制定政策。
B Very good.
B (在讲感谢你的配合,我们一起度过了漫长的一天。。。)
A Could you ask you a question?
B Yes.
A I have found some information about RI. I read RI’s motto. But I can’t say it in Latin. So I have a question. Why doesn’t RI have an English motto?
B XXX (大意是在中国读拉丁文很难,但在新加坡很简单。这条箴言是Raffles爵士定的)
B Do you know the English meaning of the motto?
A Hope of a better age.
B (我们会在今天晚上或明天上午通知你是否被录取,谢谢。。。)

(补充: 在新加坡,一些针对的面试士会有中英文的。比如,我上次去moe面试也是这样。切记,讲英文的时候请说标准英文。中文的时候则要说中文。不要讲singlish,考官非常不喜欢,即使singlish很生活化。)

注解3: until it finishes这里有语法问题,应该是until it is done/finished
