李茂林，即李养心。明代嘉靖、万历间宜兴制壶高手。号茂林。江苏宜兴人，一说江西婺源人。生卒不详。“四名家”（董翰、赵梁、袁锡、时朋）后制壶名工，擅作小圆式壶，世称“名玩”，朴实中具妍丽之态。排行第四，故又以“小圆壶李四老官”得名。制壶不加署款，仅朱书号记而已。原先壶坯，都附入缸窑烧造，不用匣钵封闭，沾有缸坛釉泪。自养心始，壶另作瓦囊，闭入陶穴，防止砂壶沾染釉泪，砂壶烧造质量大为提高。子李仲芳，亦是当时制壶名手。明代周高起《阳羡茗壶系·正始》：“李茂林，行四，名养心。制小圆式，研在朴致中，允属名玩。自此以往，壶乃另作瓦囊，闭入陶穴，故前此名壶，不免沾缸坛油泪。”明代陈贞慧《秋园杂佩》称：养心之壶艺在时大彬之上，为供春劲敌。传世作品极少。民国李景康、张虹《阳羡砂壶图考．创始》：“自正德以递万历，所制多大壶，李茂林始制小圆式，实为阳羡小壶之鼻祖。”顾景舟主编《宜兴紫砂珍赏》，着录有李养心“菊花八瓣壶”一具，底刻款“李茂林造”四字楷书款。
